Today, we’re announcing Outerbase Studio, our open-source database GUI for MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SQLite.
You may remember our acquisition back in September, where we brought Visal In, the creator of LibSQL Studio, onto our team. Visal’s work was already admired in the database community, and combining it with Outerbase we were able to create something truly special. Outerbase Studio takes the best of LibSQL Studio and pairs it with Outerbase’s core offering to deliver a tool that’s fast, intuitive, and completely open source.
Why Open Source?
Outerbase Studio is our way of giving back to the community that’s helped us grow. Open source isn’t just a gesture; it’s a strategy. By opening up the code, we want to:
Local First Development: Whether you’re an indie dev, student, or early-stage founder, Outerbase Studio gives you the tools to manage databases without needing a paid service.
Ship Faster: Open-source projects thrive on community contributions, and we believe this will accelerate how Outerbase evolves.
Simplicity: Not everyone needs cloud-based collaboration. Studio is lightweight and focused, perfect for local development.
But we’re not stopping here. Open-sourcing is just the first step.
What Can You Do with Outerbase Studio?
Outerbase Studio supports the basics of database management and goes a little further:
Connect to MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SQLite: Manage and query popular relational databases effortlessly.
Spin up local databases in seconds: No need to set up infrastructure—Outerbase Studio allows you to launch a database from the UI.
Explore and edit your data: Query, edit, and understand your data in the world's most intuitive database UI.
Why It Matters
Most database GUIs are either too clunky or outdated. We wanted to create a tool that developers can use on their own terms, whether that’s spinning up a local database for a weekend project or managing SQLite files for a side hustle.
If you need more than local management—like team collaboration, AI-powered queries, or data visualization—our cloud-based platform offers everything you need. Think of Outerbase Studio as the foundation and Outerbase Cloud as the house built on top of it.
What’s Next?
Outerbase Studio is just getting started. In the coming months, we’ll add support for more databases, integrate AI for schema creation and querying, and explore new ways to make database management even easier.
If you want to dive in today, check out Outerbase Studio on GitHub. If you’re curious about what we’re building for teams and businesses, our cloud-based platform is worth exploring.
We are excited about what this means for developers everywhere. Whether you’re contributing to the project, sharing feedback, or simply starring the repo, we’d love you to be part of this journey.
Let’s build the future of database management together!
